On 6th April 2026, the Tamale Archdiocese climaxed its Easter festivities with a Picnic at the 6 Battalion Infantry (6BN), Kamina Barracks, Tamale. It was under the theme, “Do Not Be Afraid. Go and Proclaim the Resurrection” (Matthew 28:10).
The event attracted tens of hundreds of revelers comprising Catholics and people of other faiths. It was characterised by cultural dances and displays, fun and indoor games, horse riding, song ministration, among others, creating a platform for unity in religious diversity.
Some telecommunication and insurance companies, as well as small businesses, were present to promote their products and services. Also present were food and vendors of assorted wares and products, creating a lively and festive atmosphere at the picnic grounds.
The event is organised annually on a rotational basis. Saints Peter and Paul organised this year’s celebration, with St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Parish taking over the baton in 2027.
The picnic was preceded by the celebration of Mass at the forecourt of Our Lady of Fatima Parish presided by Very Rev. Fr. Hilary Pogbeyir, the Vicar General. It was concelebrated by Most Rev. Philip Naameh, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale and 27 priests.
Very Rev. Fr. Pogbeyir focused his homily on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, urging Christians to uphold and practice the virtue of truth in their daily lives.
To this end, he called on them to emulate the example of the women led by Mary Magdalene who were the first to witness the resurrection of Christ. He observed that they gave a true narration of what they saw to His disciples when they visited His tomb.
In this regard, he advised husbands and wives to be truthful to each other in their marriage.
Earlier, the newly appointed Commanding Officer of 6BN, Lt. Col. Edward Lumor, was introduced to the congregation by the Parish Parish, Rev. Fr. Captian Dominic Prince Yeboah after which the Archbishop prayed for and blessed him and the wife and Children.
The Archbishop also gave the final Blessing.
